SUGA’s 2019 RECAP

Phenomenal does not even begin to describe SUGA’s 2019.

With several collaborations, awards for his solo work, and amazing stage performances, 2019 was a year to remember!

Let’s take a look back at the year that was and relive SUGA’s biggest moments.

Song Request

On January 22 at 6pm, Song Request was released by Lee Sora with SUGA as a featuring artist. Tablo of Epik High, who composed the track along with DEE.P, recommended SUGA to Lee Sora. The beautiful and melancholic lyrics were written by Tablo and Suga.

As expected, the song quickly rose on realtime charts. It held the #1 spot on realtime charts of major music sites by 12am KST on January 23. It was the first RAK of the Year!

Song Request also did very well internationally. By 11am KST on January 23, Song Request had reached #1 on the iTunes Top Singles Chart in 51 countries! This became a new record for a Korean female artist.

Eternal Sunshine

On March 11, Epik High released Eternal Sunshine which was co-produced by SUGA, Tablo, and El Capitxn. In his birthday Vlive on March 9, SUGA revealed that his Tablo hyung asked him to write a song while he was on tour. He agreed and created a sketch right away. He finished it in 2 days, working extremely fast and editing it little by little.

Tablo echoed this story in one of the episodes of The Tablo Podcast. Tablo said he and SUGA vibe very well music-wise which made the creation of the song a simple process. He said, “I think we finished the song in a matter of days, but the actual creation part didn’t take a few hours even.”

Eternal Sunshine did well on the charts.  At 7pm KST on March 11, it debuted at #2 on Bugs, and #10 on Melon, Genie, and Mnet.

On April 2, it debuted on Billboard’s Korea K-Pop 100 at #19.

We Don’t Talk Together

On July 7, Heize released We Don’t Talk Together, a digital single which features Giriboy. The track was produced by SUGA. He also wrote the lyrics together with Heize and Giriboy, and participated in the composition with El Capitxn.

At 10:30pm KST on July 7, the song reached #1 on the following realtime charts – Melon, Genie, Bugs, Mnet, Naver, and Soribada.

On July 16, Billboard announced that week’s Top 5 on their World Digital Song Sales Chart and We Don’t Talk Together debuted at #4.

On December 29, Billboard released The 25 Best K-Pop Songs of 2019: Critics’ Picks. This list focused on singles and We Don’t Talk Together ranked #5.

Seesaw Performance for LY:SY The Final

SUGA wrecked all of us when he performed Seesaw during the LY:SY The Final in Seoul. We expected SUGA in a red, sparkly suit. Instead, we got SUGA in a sexy off-the-shoulder see-through yellow sweater. We really hope his stylist got a bonus for creating that outfit. Fans were definitely shook!

The song doesn’t have an official MV and there are no official cuts from the final concert, but you can watch one of the fancams here:
